The essentials

What is Parent Coaching?

Parent Training and Coaching is both a standalone service and an integrated component of every therapy programme at DCCD. Research consistently shows that children whose parents actively implement strategies at home progress 2–3× faster than those who receive clinic-only therapy. Our parent coaching sessions teach you the same frameworks our therapists use — in language you can understand and apply in daily routines, without any clinical background required.

Who benefits

  • All parents of children in speech, feeding, or OT programmes
  • Parents of newly diagnosed children navigating next steps
  • Caregivers wanting to support a non-speaking child's communication
  • Families managing mealtime stress or food refusal at home
  • Parents preparing their child for preschool or school entry
  • Long-distance families accessing our telehealth coaching programme
How we work

Our approach

Evidence-based methods selected and combined specifically for each child's profile — never a one-size-fits-all programme.

Hanen 'It Takes Two to Talk'

Structured parent programme for language facilitation — teaches you to embed language targets into bath, dressing, car rides, and play in a way that feels natural.

DIR Floortime Parent Coaching

Teaches parents to follow their child's lead, expand circles of interaction, and build shared engagement through 20-minute daily floor-time sessions at home.

SOS Mealtime Coaching

Practical training in structuring mealtimes — food hierarchy, scheduling, sensory environment, and pressure-free interaction — for families managing feeding difficulties.

Caregiver Video Feedback

Recorded home interaction reviewed with the therapist to pinpoint and refine specific strategies in your natural environment, where children show their true profile.

What to expect

Parent coaching takes two forms: integrated coaching embedded in regular therapy sessions (parents observe and participate in the final 10 minutes of every session), and dedicated parent-only sessions (45–60 minutes) for deeper training in a specific framework. Both formats are available in-person and via telehealth. We also provide written home programmes after every session so you never have to rely on memory.
