What is Speech Therapy?
Speech-Language Therapy addresses the full range of communication challenges children face: articulation and phonology, receptive and expressive language, fluency (stuttering), social communication, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and voice. Every child's communication profile is unique, and DCCD's SLPs design individualized plans that meet each child exactly where they are. We never use a one-size-fits-all programme — each session is built around your child's specific strengths, needs, and learning style.
Who benefits
- Speech delays and late talkers
- Language disorders (receptive, expressive, or mixed)
- Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
- Stuttering and fluency difficulties
- Social communication challenges (pragmatics, autism)
- Non-speaking children using AAC devices or PECS
- Articulation errors and unclear speech sounds
Our approach
Evidence-based methods selected and combined specifically for each child's profile — never a one-size-fits-all programme.
PROMPT
Tactile-kinesthetic cues that teach the motor plans for speech sounds — the gold standard for apraxia and motor speech disorders. DCCD's clinical head is PROMPT-certified.
DIR® Floortime
Relationship-based model that builds communication through play, following the child's lead and expanding their circles of interaction.
Hanen Approach
Parent-coaching framework that teaches caregivers to be language facilitators in everyday routines — proven to accelerate progress dramatically.
AAC Integration
We support all forms of communication — speech-generating devices, PECS, sign language — alongside verbal goals. Communication is the goal, not a specific modality.
Naturalistic Language Intervention
Language goals embedded in meaningful, motivating activities rather than drill — so learning sticks and generalizes to real life.
What to expect
A typical speech therapy session at DCCD lasts 40 minutes and is structured to maximize engagement and carry-over. Sessions begin with a warm-up activity to build rapport and regulation, move into targeted skill practice using play-based or structured activities, and close with a parent coaching segment so you know exactly what to practice at home. Progress is reviewed every 8–10 sessions with a written report shared with your family.
